-- | The passenger

I AM A PASSENGER, AND I RIDE AND I RIDE.
I AM A PASSENGER, AND I RIDE AND RIDE. Iggy Pop sang it in 1977 but I could sing this song today, because once again I start a trip from scratch, destination Portugal...from there I could stare at the ocean and think to the New World on the other side.

A bit more than two and half years ago I emigrated from Banania, tired of its stillness and its corruptable corruptableness, leaving behind practically everything but the love for my beloved ones. Placid Valencia welcomed me, then smoky Charleroi, Valencia again and then the sexy Madrid. Now I'm spending the summer in Alghero, where I was born, and maybe tomorrow I'll spend a couple of seasons in the western borders of Europe, in the Oporto of the sweet wines.

Dopotutto, I am a passenger and I ride and ride...
Yesterday, just right after ending to work, they told me that my company is going to open a base in Oporto at the beginning of September and I impulsively asked the transfer there, following my will to learn Portuguese and the stronger and mysterious desire of every man for the adventure and the unknown. If my request will be accepted it will be like to start again from scratch, and I should leave all the nice things which are waiting for me in Spain. I will be also further from home, since there are not direct flights to Sardinia. But I'm sure that I will become a richer and more complete person, anyway it's useless to try to damp the burning fire in your chest that pushes you forward, looking for something undefined and unknown which we're sure worths the search. It is the spirit of adventure and who -like me- has been captured by it, knows perfectly that is impossible to live without.
Without that spirit men like Marco Polo or Christopher Columbus, Che Guevara or Alexander The Great, and hundreds more, would not be that worthless names without a story to tell, lost in the sands of time. Nowadays it's almost impossible to repeat that kind of enterprises, nowadays everything is easier, pre-packed, but the wind which flows towards new horizons never stops, and mine flows towards Oporto. Afterall, I am a passenger and I ride and ride...

QUOTE OF THE DAY | I have not told half of what I saw. Marco Polo
