DICCIONARIO | 01

SPANISH ARE AMAZING PEOPLE. It seems that they renounced to use English language, on the other hand Castillan is an important language too, spoken in many parts of the world. For this reason I want to make a mini dictionary which could be very useful in case you need to speak with a Spanish guy. Here's the first issue in casual order!!

A-TEAM = EQUIPO-A
SUPERCAR = EL COCHE FANTASTICO
PAC MAN = TRAGACOCOS
AUSTRALIAN OPEN = EL ABIERTO DE AUSTRALIA
TEXAS = TEJAS
FULL METAL JACKET = LA CHAQUETA METALICA
THE SHINING = EL RESPLENDOR

-- | Stranger in stranger land

SABBIA TUTT’INTORNO. Fine, bollente, appiccicosa.
SAND ALL AROUND. Thin, hot, sticky. I'm surrounded by sand, I'm surrounded by Sardinia. Since three weeks I am recording the smells, the noises, the guttural sounds of its people...I recalibrate my sense to the sight of country roads which cuts woebegone hay-fields, I look hypnotized the sapphire's waters that wash the coast and the millions of stars that listen to the nighty love litanies of frogs and insects. I store datas, looking for an answer to an undone question. My brain processes them following an obscure algorithm, but the answer is still the same: I do not belong to this land anymore, to this island that grew me up and that -even in the furthest corners of the world- gave me a mixed sense of pride and protection. It is sad to tell it, but I feel like a stranger in the center of my kingdom.

I look the faces of the tourists in the Alghero waterfront and I notice that they're all happier than me, that they like what does not give me any emotion and I feel less Sardinian than a Danish, a Norwegian, a German. The white sand I am lying on does not look the one of a beach but the one of a huge desert, a ruthless land which let you die without any chance. What once was happiness now is bleakness, and maybe right now there is not anything for me in these places that everybody envies but which are every day more empty and fond. I would like to back to Madrid today, and maybe even Madrid is not far enough to forget: I chose to live there because it's only two hours flight far from home, but does it matter anyway? Maybe the time for departure has come, maybe the other ones should keep on playing to the happiness game in the lost island of Atlantis.

Come si sta li in Nuova Zelanda, o caro Max? E tu, Peddiz? Come vi invidio ragazzi, come vi invidio.

How are you doing there in New Zealand, my dear Max? And you Peddiz? Tell me if the waves of the Gold Coast are better than the Mediterranean splashes! And you, damn Fico, are you happy to leave? I envy you all guys, I envy you all. You know, among the pages of this notebook there is a flyer I kept with me since my last Siamese trip. It says FOUR SONS VILLAGE - COMFORTABLE AND FRIENDLY, Rambutree Rd., Bangkok. If I had the money I'd leave just right tonight, without tell anything to anybody, leaving everything behind as Alex Supertramp...maybe it won't change anything, but maybe yes.

QUOTE OF THE DAY | I will miss you too, but you are wrong if you think that the joy of life comes principally from the joy of human relationships. God's place is all around us, it is in everything and in anything we can experience. People just need to change the way they look at things. Christopher McCandless

-- | Home bitter home

C’È SILENZIO NELLE CAMPAGNE INTORNO A BANCALI.

THERE IS SILENCE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE AROUND BANCALI. The daylight dies in the viscous blue of the evening and soon it will be replaced by a dark starry night, daughter of all the nights of Sardinia.

Despite the silence and the sense of peace, I am not quiet. My soul is not quiet. Usually when you back home you feel good, you have a feeling of safety, of glow, of wellness. To hug your parents, to meet old friends, to see again the places that have been the centre of the world when you were a child. Not this time, not anymore. I sip my Montenegro and I hope that amongst all those star there is one which can lead me to a safe port...

-- | Cruise to nowhere

NOW I REMEMBER WHY I HATE BOATS. I left a fireworks-shiny Barcelona one and half hour ago, aboard a Grimaldi that is bringing me home, in the Sardinia lost in black waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

Since I didn't find room in a cabin I have to do the trip as Atzeca Terrace or Green Drawing Room style like in the old times in Tirrenia, which means deck ticket and good luck. My three colleagues are sleeping in the chairs' room, where the silence and the smell of all the feet of the world rule over all, while I chose the bar in the main deck to sleep in: shiny lights, noisy customers and LCD flat screens where you can choose between Porta a Porta on Rai1 or a special about Tiziano Ferro on Canale5.

BANANIA | Bandiera Nazionale

Fuck you Vespa, don't you never die? I paid 120 bucks for the transit, but I think that a ticket to Banania, any ticket, should cost much more: it's like to use a time machine, a time machine of sadness. Nothing glamourous like in Back to the Future, we're rednecks and we cannot afford the style of a DeLorean like the one of the lucky McFly, for us it's enough a TV to put to bed the brain of the citizens until it slowly atrophies and dies silently, without to brake anybody's balls, like an old elephant that goes away looking for his legendary cemetery.

The croak of the hated Vespa insect is salaciously loud and tonight I have only my iPod to protect myself from the bullshit of the day: food and suntanning. Holy shit, and I was about to miss this episode!

…ENERGIA…CALORIE…PROTEINE…

...ENERGY...HEAT...PROTEINS...

…MELANOMI…ESTATE…SPIAGGIA…

...MELANOMAS...SUMMER...BEACH...

Poor RHCP try all their best to help me to not listen, but Vespa and his pro screamers talk louder, each of them trying to be the Guru of the Calorie or the Sensei of the Suntan, at least for tonight. The fight is unequal, I don't have much battery left. I know to be done like Crockett and his men in Alamo...the screamers will grab me and will eat me with no mercy, the way they do with all those in their power.

…LA GIUSTA ABBRONZATURA COMINCIA SABATO…

...THE RIGHT SUNTAN STARTS THIS SATURDAY...

Do you know what I'd like in this moment? I'd like they forecast a good porn movie, hopefully with Jenna, Asia or Kobe, heroines of many university's nights. Yeah, just a good honest porn movie, whose audience would be surely bigger than the old bored fart who's looking Porta a Porta just right now. Rai would make a very good impression. Even better: the title could be Rocco ravishes Saxa Rubra. It could start beyond suspicion, like a normal episode of Porta a Porta (even if there's nothing normal in it), until Our Hero dashes in and defeats everybody with his great monkey. Evil supervillain Dr.Vespa resists and fights the Great, but in the end he has to succumb to the power of the magic stick and dies horrendously impaled, for the happiness of Vlad Tepes and some millions Italians. Way better than Tarantino...

…DOBBIAMO CARICARE LA PELLE DI CAROTE (?)…

...WE MUST LOAD THE SKIN WITH CARROTS (?)...

The cruise ship continues its route in the dark, headed past, headed for the Middle Age of mediocrity. Tomorrow morning I will wake up once again amongst carabinieri, jokes about the Cavaliere, pretentious proclaims of Juventus' leaders, the customs officiers trying to dismantle my car looking for some ganja with a pack of twelve German Sheperds trained to break the balls and kill, but especially to break the balls. If I only came from Colombia...

…IL ROSSO DEL RADICCHIO, IL VERDE FORTE DEI CARCIOFI…

...THE RED OF THE RADICCHIO, THE GREEN OF ARTICHOKES...

Also the bills more expensive just before summer, men with rifles in the airports...

…DIETA DAI COLORI VIVACI, PER OTTENERE UNA BUONA ABBRONZATURA…

...DIET OF BRIGHT COLORS, TO GET A GOOD SUNTAN...
